I’ve long been interested in borders and how such an arbitrary demarcation can impact people’s lives. This project was a way to examine a border close to me, and one that has gone through drastic changes since 9/11.
Nicole Robicheau, Author.
The Border Between Us is an interactive documentary about two border towns and a dozen people set in Stanstead, Canada and Derby Line, U.S.A.
Both towns have been historically intertwined for hundreds of years: some streets weave in and out of the two countries, some people have half their house in one country and the other half in the other.
People used to be able to move relatively freely from one country to the other, but that has changed. Post 9/11, the imaginary border has become real. This documentary explores how increased securitization has affected people living in the two towns.
