“Users across Canada are submitting their own stories about their own communities and their own community change.”
Sean Embury, Creative Director, in the NFB Blog
To create the interactive documentary Hyperlocal, the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation asked their audiences to submit stories about changes in their neighborhoods. The HyperLocal team chose one winning entry from nearly 450 submissions, to be featured alongside five commissioned stories from professional writers. The NFB’s Digital Studio, based in Vancouver, developed the six stories into interactive experiences. Styles vary among the featured stories; interactive photo mosaics sit alongside collage and immersive video. However, each story focuses on how a particular Canadian neighborhood—and by extension, Canada at large—has transformed in the 21st century.
