“Despite porn’s familiarity, the people who make porn remain largely unknown. We know them through the fantasies they produce for us, but we do not know their realities.”
Jonathan Harris, Author, in Fast Co.Create
In projects like I Want You to Want Me and We Feel Fine, artist Jonathan Harris reveals how technology increasingly mediates interpersonal relationships. He explores similar themes in I Love Your Work, which follows nine women who make their living in the lesbian porn industry. The project is comprised of 2,202 clips, 10 seconds each—kept intentionally short to mimic the style of teasers on pornography sites. Each clip reveals snippets of the subjects’ daily lives, both on and off the film set.
I Love Your Work is only available through a fee-based model. Ten viewers a day can watch the project for $10 each. A $300 instant pass gives viewers access to all the content, as well as a signed archival print. Although the funding model of I Love Your Work recalls subscription-based pornography websites, it is also an experiment in finding a self-sustaining financing structure for digital work.
