“Spectre was created to explore the tensions that exist concerning the logics of dataism and surveillance capitalism on privacy, truth and democracy. Spectre explores computational forms of propaganda by subverting many of the technologies and methods commonly used by the ad tech industry to influence people’s behaviours – both online and in the voting booth.”
Bill Posters, Author and Producer
Spectre is an immersive installation that subverts many of the technologies and methods used in the Digital Influence Industry by tech giants, advertising/marketing firms, and political campaign groups. The project is named after the online persona of Dr. Aleksandr Kogan, the data scientist that sold 87 million Facebook profiles to Cambridge Analytica.
As part of Spectre, co-creators Bill Posters and Daniel Howe collaborated with AI technology start-ups to create AI-generated ‘deep fake’ celebrities including Kim Kardashian, Freddy Mercury, Donald Trump, Marcel Duchamp, and more.
